Study in Delft

Delft is a smaller city with just over 100.000 inhabitants. It really is a student city, only the university already counts 20.000 students. Around 30% of the population of Delft is student, from which the majority is male. A lot of important Dutch historical events took place in Delft, which also can be seen in its beautiful historic city centre. What is also great about Delft, is its location: the city is centrally located in between Rotterdam and The Hague. Furthermore, the beach is only a tram or bike ride away, you will be there in 30-40 minutes.

Delft is known for its technical studies, which you can study at the University of Technology, in Dutch called Technische Universiteit Delft (TU Delft) or at one of the two HBO institutes. The Dutch education system offers two ways to study a bachelor’s degree: the more practical (applied) science (Hoger Beroeps Onderwijs, HBO) and the academic teaching with a more theoretical approach (Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs, WO). WO institutes are generally called university, while HBO institutes are generally called “Hogeschool”.

The University of Technology (TU Delft) is one of the world’s top universities of technology (#15 in QS ranking). They offer 16 Bachelor’s programmes and over 35 master programmes in the fields of science, engineering and design. All the master programmes are taught in English, as well as the bachelor programmes Aerospace Engineering and Applied Earth Sciences. 30% of their master students and even over 60% of their PhD students are foreign. They have partnerships with over 30 universities all over the world.
