The Dutch education system offers two ways to study a bachelor’s degree: the more practical (applied) science (Hoger Beroeps Onderwijs, HBO) and the academic teaching with a more theoretical approach (Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs, WO). WO institutes are generally called university, while HBO institutes are generally called “Hogeschool”. In Rotterdam, you can study at the Erasmus university, or you can choose one of the many HBO institutes.
The Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is an internationally oriented research university with a strong social orientation in its education. Furthermore, they are part of a large global network of academic partnerships. It is currently one of the biggest universities of the Netherlands with a student population of 23.000 and a research community of circa 1.400 people. The EUR has 7 faculties: Erasmus Medical Faculty, Erasmus School of Economics, Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication, Erasmus School of Law, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Philosophy and Rotterdam School of Management.
